Architect of Strategy–First Finance Leadership

Overview

Saleem Sufi is a globally respected finance leader, educator, and thought leader dedicated to redefining the role of finance professionals in the modern organization. As the Founder of MECA CFO Academy, he has built one of the most recognized platforms for developing senior finance professionals into strategic, boardroom-ready leaders.

With over two decades of experience in senior finance roles across multiple regions—including Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America—Saleem has worked with Fortune 500 and private equity-backed organizations, bringing deep expertise in strategy, finance, and leadership.

Today, his mission is clear:

To transform finance professionals from technical experts into strategic leaders who shape business direction and create enterprise value.

Early Life & Personal Journey

Saleem’s journey is deeply rooted in resilience, family values, and a strong belief in continuous growth. Throughout his life, he has maintained a close bond with his family, which has been a central source of strength and inspiration.

He is a proud father of five daughters—Saba, Sana, Sara, Sonia, and Sania—and a grandfather who cherishes time with his grandchildren, Amira, Noha, and Zoya. His personal experiences, including profound moments of loss and healing within his family, have shaped his perspective on life, leadership, and purpose.

These experiences have instilled in him:

  • Emotional depth
  • Empathy
  • A strong sense of responsibility toward others

All of which are reflected in his leadership philosophy.

Education & Professional Credentials

Saleem holds advanced qualifications in finance and strategy and is a Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMAP).

His academic and professional foundation combines:

  • Strong technical finance expertise
  • Strategic thinking
  • Leadership development

This combination has enabled him to bridge the traditional gap between finance and business strategy—an area that has become central to his work.

Corporate Career

Before founding MECA, Saleem built a distinguished corporate career spanning more than 20 years in senior finance leadership roles.

He held key positions including:

  • CFO-level roles
  • Senior finance leadership positions in multinational and regional organizations

Across these roles, he developed expertise in:

  • Financial strategy
  • Business transformation
  • Performance management
  • Capital allocation
  • Organizational leadership

Notably, in the later phase of his corporate career, Saleem did not actively seek new roles. Instead, he received multiple CFO-level opportunities through his network—an experience that reinforced his belief in the power of strategic positioning and professional relationships.

The Founding of MECA CFO Academy

In 2014, Saleem made a pivotal decision to leave his corporate career and focus on a larger mission: transforming the finance profession.

When he moved to Dubai to establish MECA CFO Academy, he knew very few people in the region. Recognizing the importance of networking, he took immediate action by organizing his own networking event. While initial participation was modest, this effort laid the foundation for what would become a global platform.

Within a short period:

  • MECA hosted major CFO conferences
  • Built strong industry connections
  • Established credibility in the region

Over time, MECA evolved into a global academy with:

  • 5,000+ trained professionals
  • Participants from over 30 countries
  • A growing alumni network of senior finance leaders

MECA CFO Academy

Under Saleem’s leadership, MECA CFO Academy has become a leading platform for executive education in finance, with a strong focus on:

  • Strategy
  • Leadership
  • Digital transformation
  • Decision intelligence

Its flagship offering, the Strategic CFO Program, is a 12-month transformation journey designed to develop finance professionals into enterprise leaders capable of influencing strategy and driving value.

MECA’s approach is distinct:

  • Case-based learning
  • Simulations
  • Peer interaction
  • Real-world application

This model goes beyond traditional training, focusing on:

Transformation, not just education
